New study on the profession of midwives

We are excited to kick start our 5th study on the mapping and assessment of developments for the professions under Directive 2005/36/EC for DG GROW.

Having already successfully mapped the most relevant scientific and technical developments in the professions of nurses, dentists, pharmacists and veterinary surgeons, it is time to delve into the profession of midwives. The study will entail in-depth desk research and stakeholder consultations to understand how recent advancements have affected the profession and, hence, the education and training for midwives across the EU. The data collected will allow us to assess if and to what extent a revision of the minimum training requirements currently set out under Directive 2005/36/EC -within the limits of the Commission’s delegated powers- would be appropriate, and to provide suggestions to the European Commission in this respect. A dedicated workshop to enhance stakeholder engagement and relevant contributions will be organised in autumn 2024. Stay tuned for more updates and check out the published results of our previous studies for nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and vets.
